This month we are going to look in depth into a question we get asked lots on our GPS Training courses around the country –
Can I change the colour or transparency of the route and track line on my GPS?
First of all Ian what is a route and track
So Ian, going back to the original question – Can I change the colour or transparency of the route and track line on my GPS?
Ian – It depends on the make of GPS and planning software
Jon – Looking at the planning software first, lets first look at Garmin BaseCamp
Garmin Basecamp
Routes – yes
Tracks – yes
For colour and line thickness.
Colour change within the route properties
Thickness for routes and tracks – Windows ‘Options’, Mac – little cog at the bottom of the screen or ‘preferences’ from the toolbar
Jon – So that’s BaseCamp nailed how about the Garmin GPS unit can we change the route and track colour on a Garmin GPS unit>
GPS
Route in GPS – always Magenta regardless what it is in Basecamp
Track in GPS – whatever colour you have it on Basecamp
Moving onto SatMap now, Xpedition 2 (Thanks SatMap for the support they have given us this last week, you know what you have done, it is appreciated)
Satmap Xpedition
Routes – yes properties of the route
Tracks – no
GPS
Active 10 and 12

Tracks – no but can alter the size of the trail – screen data options
