3 – Ian’s FAQ’s
a) Garmin
Basecamp will run slowly with Big Sur.
This is not a solution (Garmin have to update BaseCamp), but a short term workaround –
The problem (Mac running slowly) comes when you’re viewing the maps in 2d, but not if you view it in 3D.
To get around it in the meantime –
Fingers crossed Garmin get it sorted soon.
b) Satmap –
The Satmap question, that Satmap got Jeff Bale to do to get the Active 20 to read the map card again, which I had forgotten about, was to perform a Master reset.
If clearing all the routes off the SD card doesn’t resolve the issue of the map card showing but not being read correctly, you can reset the Active 20 to the default the settings. This can be done by following the instructions below on the device with the SD card inserted.
Main menu – settings – default – yes – clear all. Then when you next turn the device on with the SD card inserted, please make sure when the book cover appears you click view map.
Don’t forget we have lots of tips and solutions to your questions in the GPS Training online resource – go to – gpstraining – click on – online resource – on the top menu bar – and then log in – select your unit and you will see the top tips for that unit down at the bottom of the menu of units.

Great podcast guys!
I always look forward to new episodes. I’ve listened to almost every one since the beginning. The knowledge and tips you provide are much appreciated!
Personally i own and use 3 garmin gps’s. An old gpsmap 60csx and a colorado 300.
But the one i use the absolute most, is one i’ve never heard you even mentioning. It’s the Foretrex 601. Since I always navigate primarely by map this one is absolutely brilliant. I really would like to hear your opinion on the Foretrex series gps’s.
Please keep up the good work!
Cheers!

Bought my Montana 700 form you a couple of month ago. Very please with it. Couple of issues with it not wanting to work in “track up” mode. But still preserving on that front. Any news on a suitable case and screen protector for the Montana?
